Children’s behaviour is a type of language. Every behaviour has a meaning. This is how our children let us know what they are feeling and what they are needing. When we understand our children’s “language”, we can give them what they need.
The meaning we attach to our child’s behaviour, and how we understand it, depends on the lens we are looking through.
This lens is made up of the beliefs and values (messages) that were given to us during our childhood and our life experiences. These messages have come from the stories of all the people that were in our environment and stored in our message centre (our brain).
Every person has a message centre, even children. All the messages we received in our childhood have shaped our brain, and it’s important to understand how this happens. If we received lots of negative messages, our brain will have lots of negative pathways. If we received lots of positive messages, our brain will have lots of positive pathways. These pathways then shape the lens we look through at the world.
Bringing Up Great Kids looks at the journey of parenting, and how to make sure that the messages that we are communicating are the ones that we want our children to receive.
Dinner will be provided, no creche available.
