Protective Behaviours Workshop – FREE Child Protection Week Event
September 10, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Next week is National Child Protection Week and this year’s theme is Every child, in every community, needs a fair go. Investing In Our Youth was a proud recipient of a National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (NAPCAN) Play Your Part Award in 2018 – as an organisation we believe strongly that “Protecting children is everyone’s business” and that everyone has a part to play in promoting the safety and wellbeing of children and young people. At Child and Parent Centre Carey Park, we provide a range of early childhood focussed services that support the theme of this year’s National Child Protection Week such as playgroups, support groups, parenting programs and general family support which are all available free of charge to families in the local area. Our role is to support families in their role as first teacher of their children.
One area that can be difficult for families to teach is protective behaviours – it’s an uncomfortable topic but incredibly important. This workshop aligns with the Protective Behaviours sexual abuse prevention program that is taught in all WA public schools and is facilitated by Department of Education Psychologists. Consistent messaging across home and school environments strengthens the messages that children receive and helps keep children safe from sexual abuse.
The workshop is suitable for parents of children of all ages and participants will learn some activities, resources and language that they can use to talk about protective behaviours with their children.
